Before & After Care
-
PLEASE READ BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT
Following these pre-care instructions is extremely important for achieving the best possible healed results. The condition of your skin at the time of your appointment can directly affect how the pigment implants, how your skin heals, and how well your brows retain color.
Please follow all pre-care instructions carefully. Arriving with healthy, calm, non-irritated skin gives us the best foundation for beautiful, even and long-lasting healed results.
14 DAYS BEFORE — SKINCARE
For the 14 days leading up to your Powder Brow appointment, please simplify your entire facial skincare routine.
During these 14 days, I recommend using ONLY Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser and a gentle Cetaphil moisturizer on your entire face.
Please discontinue ALL anti-aging, exfoliating, resurfacing, brightening, acne-treatment and active skincare products on the entire face, not just around the brows.
This includes:
● Retinol, retinal/retinaldehyde and prescription retinoids such as tretinoin (Retin-A), adapalene and tazarotene
● Vitamin A products
● AHAs including glycolic, lactic, mandelic and citric acids
● BHAs including salicylic acid
● PHAs and exfoliating toners
● Glycolic or resurfacing pads
● Chemical and enzyme exfoliants
● Facial scrubs, cleansing brushes and exfoliating devices
● At-home peels and peeling solutions
● Benzoyl peroxide and acne-treatment products
● Hydroquinone and other strong pigment-correcting or brightening treatments
● Vitamin C and other strong active/brightening serums
● Anti-aging and resurfacing serums
● Any other product intended to exfoliate, resurface, peel, brighten or accelerate skin-cell turnover
Please do not use these products anywhere on your face during the 14 days before your appointment.
Please also do not introduce any new facial skincare products during this period.
Even if you normally tolerate these products well, active skincare can increase dryness, sensitivity, irritation and skin-cell turnover, which may affect the procedure and your healed results.
For the full 14 days, keep it simple: Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser + Cetaphil moisturizer only.
If you use a prescription topical medication or prescription skincare product, please do not discontinue it without first consulting the healthcare provider who prescribed it. Please contact me prior to your appointment so we can determine whether your procedure needs to be adjusted or rescheduled.
BROW GROOMING
Any waxing, threading or brow shaping should be completed at least 7 days before your appointment.
Professional brow shaping is included with your initial Powder Brow appointment, so you are welcome to leave your brows completely untouched beforehand.
If you normally tint your brows, please have your tint completed at least 7 days prior to your appointment.
Please avoid facial waxing, dermaplaning, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, laser treatments and other professional resurfacing treatments for at least 2–4 weeks before your appointment, depending on the treatment.
BOTOX & FILLERS
Please schedule cosmetic Botox/Dysport and dermal filler at least 4 weeks BEFORE or 4 weeks AFTER your Powder Brow appointment.
This allows the area to fully settle and helps me create your brow shape based on your natural, stable facial anatomy.
BLOOD THINNERS & MEDICATIONS
If you currently take a prescription blood thinner, anticoagulant, antiplatelet medication or medically prescribed aspirin, you MUST consult with your prescribing physician or healthcare provider prior to your Powder Brow appointment.
Examples may include Eliquis (apixaban), Xarelto (rivaroxaban), warfarin/Coumadin, Plavix (clopidogrel) and prescription aspirin therapy.
DO NOT stop or alter a prescribed blood thinner or any medically necessary medication on your own for a permanent makeup procedure. Your prescribing healthcare provider must determine whether it is medically appropriate for you to temporarily discontinue or modify your medication.
Blood-thinning medications may increase bleeding and bruising during the procedure and can potentially affect pigment implantation and healed results.
Please notify me before your appointment if you take a prescription blood thinner so we can determine whether it is appropriate to proceed.
When medically appropriate, avoid non-prescription medications that can increase bleeding, such as aspirin, ibuprofen/Advil/Motrin and naproxen/Aleve, for approximately 48 hours before your appointment.
Certain supplements, including fish oil/omega-3 and vitamin E, may also affect bleeding or bruising. If these have been medically recommended or prescribed, please consult your healthcare provider before discontinuing them.
24 HOURS BEFORE
Please avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before your appointment.
Please avoid caffeine on the day of your procedure, including coffee, energy drinks and highly caffeinated beverages, until after your appointment.
Stay well hydrated and eat a normal meal before arriving.
SUN & TANNING
Please avoid sunburn, significant sun exposure and tanning before your appointment.
Powder Brows cannot be performed on skin that is sunburned, peeling, irritated or otherwise compromised.
DAY OF YOUR APPOINTMENT
Please arrive with healthy, calm skin and no irritation in the treatment area.
Please avoid applying heavy skincare products, oils or active ingredients to your face before arriving.
Make sure you have eaten and are well hydrated before your appointment.
IMPORTANT — WHEN WE CANNOT TATTOO
I will NOT tattoo over skin that is irritated, inflamed, infected or otherwise compromised, including:
● Active rashes or dermatitis
● Open cuts, wounds or abrasions
● Sunburn or peeling skin
● Active acne or pustules within the treatment area
● Active infections affecting the treatment area
● Unexplained lesions or significant irritation
Moles and other skin lesions will not be tattooed over and may need to be worked around.
If you develop a rash, breakout, sunburn, irritation or any other skin concern before your appointment, please contact me prior to coming in.
ONE LAST REMINDER
Your pre-care plays a major role in your final healed results. Following these instructions helps prepare your skin for the procedure, minimize unnecessary sensitivity and bleeding, and gives us the best opportunity for beautiful, even pigment retention and long-lasting Powder Brows.
If you are ever unsure about a skincare product, medication or treatment before your appointment, please reach out before making any changes.
-
YOUR AFTERCARE IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS YOUR APPOINTMENT
Proper aftercare is extremely important for achieving the best possible healed results. How you care for your brows during the first 10–14 days can directly affect healing, pigment retention and your final results.
Your brows are essentially healing skin. Please follow these instructions carefully and do not substitute other cleansers, ointments or products for the aftercare products provided to you.
FIRST HOUR AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT
For the first hour following your appointment, gently blot your brows as instructed using the antiseptic wipe provided to you. This helps remove excess lymph and fluid from the surface of the skin.
This step is important! Allowing lymph and fluid to dry and build up on the brows can contribute to heavier scabbing and excessive flaking during the healing process.
Blot gently — never rub or scrub.
YOUR FIRST WASH
Within a few hours after your appointment, gently wash your brows using the aftercare soap provided to you.
Always wash your brows OUTSIDE of the shower.
Wash your hands thoroughly.
Using clean fingertips, mix a TINY amount of the provided soap with water.
Very gently wash the brows in the direction of the brow hair. Think of this as a light swipe across the skin — never scrub.
Rinse thoroughly to make sure ALL soap has been removed.
Gently pat dry with a clean paper towel. Do not rub.
Once completely dry, apply a VERY thin layer of the provided aftercare balm.
The brows should never look wet, shiny, greasy or goopy from the balm.
DAYS 1–10 — WASH MORNING & NIGHT
For the first 10 days, gently wash your brows:
Once in the morning + once at night.
Continue using only the aftercare soap provided and follow the same gentle washing method each time.
Always wash them outside of the shower and pat completely dry with a fresh, clean paper towel.
BALM — LESS IS MORE!
Apply the provided aftercare balm morning and night for 10 days, after cleansing and drying your brows.
You need a RICE-GRAIN-SIZED amount for BOTH BROWS COMBINED.
Not one rice grain per brow — one tiny rice-grain amount should cover BOTH brows.
Using too much balm can keep the area overly moist and interfere with normal healing.
If you are using the balm correctly, you should have plenty remaining for your touch-up appointment.
KEEP YOUR BROWS DRY
For the first 10 days, the only time your brows should intentionally get wet is when you are washing them according to these instructions.
Avoid:
Water directly hitting the brows in the shower
Excessive sweating
Steam
Saunas
Hot tubs
Swimming/pools
Long, hot showers
Anything that keeps the brows excessively wet or damp
When showering, keep your face out of the direct stream of water.
NO SUN EXPOSURE
Avoid direct sunlight on your brows for at least 2 weeks.
Freshly tattooed skin is particularly sensitive while healing, and UV exposure can negatively affect your healed results.
After your brows are completely healed, protecting them from the sun will help preserve the pigment long-term.
NOTHING ELSE TOUCHES YOUR BROWS FOR 2 WEEKS
For the first 14 days, do NOT allow any of the following to touch your brows:
Makeup
Foundation or concealer
Facial cleansers other than your provided aftercare soap
Moisturizers or lotions
Serums
Oils
Sunscreen directly on the healing brows
Shampoo
Conditioner
Hair products
Anti-aging products
Acne products
Exfoliating products
Retinol/retinoids
Acids or other active skincare ingredients
The only products that should touch your healing brows are the aftercare products provided to you.
After the initial healing period, continue to avoid applying active skincare ingredients directly over your brows, particularly retinoids, exfoliating acids, acne treatments and strong anti-aging/resurfacing products. These products may accelerate fading of your permanent makeup.
DO NOT PICK, PEEL OR SCRATCH
As your brows heal, they may become dry, flaky or lightly scabbed.
DO NOT PICK, PEEL, SCRATCH OR PULL AT THEM.
Allow all flaking and scabbing to shed naturally.
Removing flakes or scabs prematurely can pull pigment from the skin and create uneven or patchy healed results.
If they become itchy, do not scratch them.
SLEEPING
DO NOT sleep directly on your face or brows while they are healing.
Try to sleep on your back whenever possible and use a clean pillowcase.
Avoid anything that creates prolonged friction or pressure against the brow area.
WHAT TO EXPECT WHILE HEALING
Your brows will go through several stages during the healing process.
They may initially appear darker, bolder or warmer than expected. As they begin healing, they may become dry and flaky and can temporarily appear much lighter or uneven.
Do not panic if your brows seem too dark at first or appear very light after flaking.
The pigment continues to settle and develop beneath the skin as healing progresses. Your true healed color should not be evaluated during the initial peeling stage.
Your final healed results are assessed once the skin has completed its healing process.
CONTACT ME IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS
Some tenderness, mild redness, dryness, itching and flaking can be expected during normal healing.
However, if you experience increasing redness, warmth, swelling, worsening pain, pus-like drainage, fever, or other symptoms that concern you, please contact a healthcare professional promptly.
If you are ever unsure whether something you’re experiencing is part of the normal healing process, please reach out.
REMEMBER
Beautiful healed Powder Brows are a team effort.
I will do everything I can during your appointment to create beautiful brows — and following your aftercare instructions at home gives your skin the best opportunity to heal properly and retain the pigment evenly
-
PLEASE READ BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT
Following these pre-care instructions is extremely important for achieving the safest procedure and the best possible healed Lash Line Enhancement results.
The eyelid and lash line are extremely delicate. The condition of your skin, lashes and eyes at the time of your appointment can directly affect sensitivity, swelling, pigment implantation, healing and your final healed results.
Your eyes and eyelids must be healthy, calm and completely free from irritation or infection on the day of your appointment.
Please follow ALL instructions carefully.
14 DAYS BEFORE — SKINCARE
For the 14 days leading up to your appointment, please simplify your entire facial skincare routine.
During these 14 days, I recommend using ONLY Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser and a gentle Cetaphil moisturizer on your entire face.
Please discontinue ALL:
Retinol and retinoids
Retinal/retinaldehyde
Prescription tretinoin (Retin-A)
Vitamin A products
Glycolic acid
Lactic acid
Mandelic acid
Salicylic acid
AHAs/BHAs/PHAs
Exfoliating toners
Chemical or enzyme exfoliants
Facial scrubs
At-home peels
Resurfacing products
Benzoyl peroxide
Hydroquinone
Vitamin C and strong brightening serums
Strong acne treatments
Anti-aging/resurfacing serums
Any product intended to exfoliate, peel, resurface or accelerate skin-cell turnover
Please do not use these products anywhere on your face during the 14 days before your appointment.
Please also do not introduce any new facial skincare products during this time.
If you use a prescription topical medication, please do not discontinue it without first consulting the healthcare provider who prescribed it.
LASH LIFT & TINT — 2 WEEKS BEFORE
Any lash lift or lash tint MUST be completed at least 2 WEEKS PRIOR to your Lash Line Enhancement appointment.
This allows the lashes, eyelids and delicate skin along the lash line plenty of time to completely settle before your permanent makeup procedure.
Your eyelids and lash line must be completely free from redness, sensitivity and irritation on the day of your appointment.
NO LASH EXTENSIONS
ALL LASH EXTENSIONS MUST BE COMPLETELY REMOVED BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT.
I cannot perform a Lash Line Enhancement with lash extensions in place.
Please have your extensions professionally removed ahead of your appointment so the eyelid and lash line have time to calm down from any irritation caused by the removal process.
Do not pull or remove lash extensions yourself.
LASH GROWTH SERUMS — VERY IMPORTANT
Lash-growth serums can affect the delicate skin along the lash line and therefore need to be discontinued appropriately before your procedure.
OVER-THE-COUNTER LASH SERUMS
Please discontinue ALL over-the-counter lash-growth serums for at least 2 WEEKS BEFORE your appointment.
Please do not resume using them until at least 2 WEEKS AFTER your procedure and the area is completely healed.
LATISSE & PRESCRIPTION-STRENGTH LASH SERUMS
If you use Latisse (bimatoprost) or another prescription-strength lash-growth medication, please notify me well in advance of your appointment.
My protocol requires clients to be off prescription-strength lash-growth products for 2 MONTHS BEFORE and 2 MONTHS AFTER Lash Line Enhancement, when medically appropriate.
These products can cause changes to the delicate tissue along the lash line, which may affect how the skin responds during the procedure and may contribute to bleeding, poor pigment retention or migration.
Because Latisse is a prescription medication, DO NOT discontinue or alter your medication without first consulting the healthcare provider who prescribed it.
If your provider does not recommend discontinuing the medication, please contact me prior to your appointment.
CONTACT LENSES
DO NOT WEAR CONTACT LENSES TO YOUR APPOINTMENT.
Please arrive wearing your glasses instead.
Your contact lenses cannot remain in during your Lash Line Enhancement procedure.
If you normally wear contacts, please bring your glasses with you.
STYES, EYE INFECTIONS & IRRITATION
YOUR EYES MUST BE COMPLETELY HEALTHY ON THE DAY OF YOUR APPOINTMENT.
If you have or even think you may be developing a stye, your appointment MUST be rescheduled.
I cannot perform Lash Line Enhancement if you have:
A stye or suspected stye
Pink eye/conjunctivitis
An active eye infection
Swollen or inflamed eyelids
Significant redness
Unexplained eye discharge
Open sores or abrasions
Active dermatitis or eczema in the treatment area
Significant irritation or inflammation around the eyes
If something doesn’t look or feel normal, please contact me BEFORE coming to your appointment.
BOTOX, FILLERS & COSMETIC TREATMENTS
Please schedule Botox/Dysport, fillers and other cosmetic injectables at least 4 WEEKS BEFORE or 4 WEEKS AFTER your Lash Line Enhancement appointment.
If you have recently had a chemical peel, laser treatment, resurfacing procedure or other professional facial treatment, please contact me prior to your appointment.
RECENT EYE SURGERY OR PROCEDURES
If you have recently undergone LASIK, cataract surgery, blepharoplasty/eyelid surgery or any other medical procedure involving your eyes or eyelids, please notify me before scheduling.
You must be completely healed, and depending on the procedure, you may need clearance from your ophthalmologist or treating healthcare provider before permanent makeup can be performed.
BLOOD THINNERS & MEDICATIONS
If you currently take a prescription blood thinner, anticoagulant, antiplatelet medication or medically prescribed aspirin, you MUST consult with your prescribing physician or healthcare provider prior to your appointment.
DO NOT STOP OR ALTER A PRESCRIBED BLOOD THINNER OR MEDICALLY NECESSARY MEDICATION ON YOUR OWN.
Your prescribing healthcare provider must determine whether it is medically appropriate for you to temporarily discontinue or modify your medication.
Blood-thinning medications may increase bleeding and bruising during the procedure and can potentially affect pigment implantation and healed results.
Please notify me before your appointment if you take a prescription blood thinner.
When medically appropriate, avoid non-prescription medications that may increase bleeding, such as aspirin, ibuprofen/Advil/Motrin and naproxen/Aleve, for approximately 48 hours before your appointment.
24 HOURS BEFORE
Please avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before your appointment.
Please avoid caffeine on the day of your procedure until after your appointment.
Stay well hydrated and eat a normal meal before arriving.
DAY OF YOUR APPOINTMENT — NO MAKEUP!
PLEASE ARRIVE WITH A COMPLETELY CLEAN FACE AND NO EYE MAKEUP.
This is especially important for:
NO MASCARA!
Mascara residue can remain between the lashes and directly along the lash line — exactly where I need to work.
Please thoroughly remove all eye makeup before coming to your appointment.
Do NOT arrive wearing:
Mascara
Eyeliner
Eyeshadow
False lashes
Lash extensions
Makeup around the eye area
Contact lenses
Please do not aggressively scrub your eyes immediately before your appointment, as this can cause unnecessary irritation.
If you normally wear contact lenses, wear your glasses and bring them with you.
YOUR APPOINTMENT WILL NEED TO BE RESCHEDULED IF:
You arrive with:
A stye or suspected stye
Pink eye/conjunctivitis
An active eye infection
Significant redness, swelling or irritation
Unexplained eye discharge
Open wounds or sores around the treatment area
Active dermatitis or significant inflammation
Lash extensions still attached
Any other condition that makes the treatment area unsafe to tattoo
If you’re unsure about something happening with your eyes or eyelids, please contact me BEFORE your appointment rather than waiting until you arrive.
ONE LAST REMINDER
HEALTHY EYES + PROPER PREPARATION = BETTER HEALED RESULTS
Your Lash Line Enhancement is performed on an extremely delicate area, and your pre-care plays an important role in your procedure and final healed results.
Following these instructions helps us begin with a clean, calm and healthy lash line, minimize unnecessary irritation and sensitivity, and give your pigment the best opportunity to heal beautifully.
-
YOUR AFTERCARE IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT
Proper aftercare is an important part of achieving beautiful, even and long-lasting Lash Line Enhancement results.
The skin along your lash line is extremely delicate. How you care for your eyes during the first 10–14 days can directly affect healing, pigment retention and your final healed results.
Your Lash Line Enhancement will initially appear darker and more defined than your final result. The color will soften as the area heals.
Please follow ALL aftercare instructions carefully.
KEEP YOUR LASH LINE DRY FOR 10 DAYS
Keep the tattooed lash line dry for the first 10 days.
This does NOT mean you cannot wash your face!
You can absolutely continue cleansing your face — simply be careful around your eyes and avoid getting the tattooed lash line wet.
When washing your face:
Carefully cleanse around the eye area
Do not splash water directly onto your eyes
Do not allow facial cleanser to run over the lash line
Do not rub or scrub your eyelids
Gently pat around the area with a clean towel or paper towel
When showering, keep your face out of the direct stream of water.
Be especially careful with shampoo, conditioner and other shower products so they do not run into your eyes or over the tattooed lash line.
NO EYE MAKEUP FOR 10 DAYS
DO NOT apply makeup to the tattooed eye area for at least 10 days.
This includes:
Mascara
Eyeliner
Eyeshadow
False lashes
Makeup directly along the lash line
Do not resume eye makeup until the area has healed.
When you do begin wearing eye makeup again, I recommend starting with clean/fresh products whenever possible, especially mascara and eyeliner, to reduce unnecessary exposure to bacteria around the newly healed area.
NO CONTACT LENSES FOR 24 HOURS
DO NOT wear contact lenses for at least 24 hours following your procedure.
Please wear your glasses during this time.
Do not attempt to insert or remove contacts while your eyelids are freshly tattooed.
If your eyes remain swollen, irritated or uncomfortable after 24 hours, continue wearing your glasses until your eyes feel completely normal.
NO LASH EXTENSIONS FOR 2 WEEKS
DO NOT have lash extensions applied for at least 2 WEEKS following your Lash Line Enhancement.
The lash line needs time to heal before being exposed to lash adhesive, manipulation or the application process.
The area should be completely healed before lash extensions are reapplied.
DO NOT PICK, SCRATCH OR RUB
As your Lash Line Enhancement heals, leave the area completely alone.
DO NOT:
Pick
Scratch
Rub your eyes
Pull at the healing skin
Use a washcloth on the area
Scrub the eyelids
Use cleansing brushes or exfoliating devices around the eyes
If you notice any light shedding or changes to the surface of the skin, allow everything to come away naturally.
Picking or prematurely removing healing skin can pull pigment from the area and contribute to uneven or patchy healed results.
NO HEAVY SWEATING FOR 10 DAYS
Avoid heavy sweating and strenuous exercise that causes significant perspiration for 10 days.
Sweat contains salt and moisture and can irritate the freshly tattooed area.
This includes activities such as:
Intense workouts
Hot yoga
Running
High-intensity cardio
Activities that cause excessive sweating
NO SWIMMING, STEAM OR SAUNAS
For at least 10 days, avoid:
Swimming pools
Hot tubs
Saunas
Steam rooms
Excessive steam
Anything that repeatedly exposes or soaks the lash line with water
Give your eyelids time to heal without unnecessary moisture, heat or exposure.
DO NOT SLEEP ON YOUR FACE
For the first 10 days, avoid sleeping directly on your face or putting pressure against your eyes.
Try to sleep on your back whenever possible and use a clean pillowcase.
Avoid rubbing your face or eyes against your pillow while the area is healing.
AVOID SUN & TANNING
Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning for approximately 3–4 weeks following your procedure.
UV exposure can contribute to premature fading and may affect your healed pigment.
Once completely healed, protecting the area from excessive UV exposure will help maintain your Lash Line Enhancement longer.
SKINCARE AROUND YOUR EYES
During the initial healing period, keep skincare products away from the tattooed lash line.
Avoid applying:
Retinol/retinoids
Tretinoin
Glycolic acid
Salicylic acid
AHAs/BHAs
Exfoliating products
Anti-aging treatments
Strong active serums
Eye creams directly against the healing lash line
Once completely healed, continue to be cautious about applying strong active skincare directly over your permanent makeup, as repeated use may contribute to premature fading.
LASH GROWTH SERUMS
Do not immediately restart lash-growth serums following your procedure.
For over-the-counter lash serums, wait at least 2 weeks AFTER your procedure AND until the lash line is completely healed before resuming use.
If you use Latisse or another prescription-strength lash-growth medication, follow the plan discussed before your appointment and your prescribing healthcare provider’s instructions.
My protocol requires prescription-strength lash-growth products to remain discontinued for 2 months after Lash Line Enhancement, when medically appropriate.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING HEALING
Immediately after your appointment, your Lash Line Enhancement may appear:
Darker • Bolder • More Defined
You may also experience some temporary swelling, tenderness or sensitivity around the eyes immediately following the procedure.
This should gradually settle.
As the area heals, the pigment will soften and become more natural-looking.
DO NOT judge your final color immediately after your appointment.
Permanent makeup goes through a healing process, and the final result should be evaluated only after the skin has had adequate time to completely heal.
QUICK AFTERCARE REMINDERS
Keep your lash line dry for 10 days
You CAN wash your face — just carefully avoid the lash line
No eye makeup for 10 days
No mascara for 10 days
No contacts for at least 24 hours
No lash extensions for at least 2 weeks
No heavy sweating for 10 days
No swimming, hot tubs, steam or saunas for 10 days
Do not pick, scratch or rub your eyes
Do not sleep on your face for 10 days
Avoid direct sun exposure/tanning for 3–4 weeks
Keep active skincare away from your healing lash line
Do not prematurely restart lash-growth serums
Always wash your hands before touching anywhere near your eyes
WHEN TO SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION
Some temporary swelling, tenderness or sensitivity can occur immediately following Lash Line Enhancement.
However, significant or worsening symptoms should not be ignored.
Please seek prompt medical attention if you experience symptoms such as:
Increasing or severe eye pain
Significant or worsening swelling
Spreading redness or warmth
Pus-like or unusual discharge
Significant vision changes
Fever
Symptoms of an eye infection
Any reaction or symptom that concerns you
Eye symptoms should always be taken seriously.
ONE LAST REMINDER
YOUR AFTERCARE PLAYS A MAJOR ROLE IN YOUR HEALED RESULTS.
The first 10 days are all about keeping your Lash Line Enhancement clean, dry, protected and completely undisturbed.
No water on the lash line. No mascara. No picking. No rubbing. No heavy sweating.
Give your skin the time it needs to heal naturally.
Beautiful healed Lash Line Enhancement is a team effort — I will do everything I can during your appointment to create beautiful results, and following your aftercare instructions at home helps protect the work we’ve created together.
-
PLEASE READ BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT
Following your pre-care instructions is extremely important for achieving the best possible healed Lip Blush results.
Unlike applying lipstick to the surface, Lip Blush involves implanting pigment into the skin of the lips. The condition of your lips and surrounding skin at the time of your appointment can directly affect how the pigment implants, how much you bleed or swell, how comfortably you heal, pigment retention, and your final healed color.
Dry, cracked, irritated, sunburned or compromised lips may not accept pigment evenly and may need to be rescheduled.
Please follow ALL pre-care instructions carefully so your lips are healthy, hydrated and properly prepared for your appointment.
14 DAYS BEFORE — SIMPLIFY YOUR SKINCARE
For the 14 days leading up to your Lip Blush appointment, please simplify your entire facial skincare routine.
I recommend using ONLY Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser and a gentle Cetaphil moisturizer on your face.
Please discontinue ALL anti-aging, exfoliating, resurfacing, brightening, acne-treatment and active skincare products on the entire face.
This includes:
Retinol, retinal/retinaldehyde and prescription retinoids such as tretinoin (Retin-A), adapalene and tazarotene
Vitamin A products
AHAs including glycolic, lactic, mandelic and citric acids
BHAs including salicylic acid
PHAs and exfoliating toners
Glycolic or resurfacing pads
Chemical and enzyme exfoliants
Facial scrubs and exfoliating devices
At-home peels or peeling solutions
Benzoyl peroxide and acne treatments
Hydroquinone and strong pigment-correcting treatments
Vitamin C and other strong brightening serums
Anti-aging and resurfacing serums
Any product intended to exfoliate, peel, resurface or accelerate skin-cell turnover
Please do not use these products anywhere on your face during the 14 days before your appointment.
Please also avoid introducing any new skincare products during this period.
If you use a prescription topical medication or prescription skincare product, do not discontinue it without first consulting the healthcare provider who prescribed it. Please contact me before your appointment so we can determine whether it is appropriate to proceed.
KEEP YOUR LIPS HYDRATED
Healthy, hydrated lips provide a much better surface for Lip Blush.
During the days leading up to your appointment:
Keep your lips consistently moisturized with a simple, non-irritating lip balm
Drink plenty of water
Avoid picking or biting your lips
Avoid anything that causes irritation or excessive dryness
Please DO NOT aggressively scrub or exfoliate your lips immediately before your appointment.
Your lips should arrive soft, intact and free from cracks, peeling, sores or irritation.
If your lips are severely chapped, cracked, peeling, sunburned or otherwise compromised, your appointment may need to be rescheduled.
COLD SORES / HSV — EXTREMELY IMPORTANT
If you have EVER had a cold sore, fever blister or HSV outbreak on or around your lips — even if you have not had one in years — you MUST disclose this before your Lip Blush appointment.
Lip tattooing creates controlled trauma to the lips, which can trigger reactivation of the herpes simplex virus (HSV) in people who carry it.
A cold-sore outbreak during healing can significantly interfere with your Lip Blush results and may contribute to pigment loss, prolonged healing or scarring.
If you have a history of cold sores, you will need to contact your physician or other qualified healthcare provider BEFORE your appointment to discuss whether prescription antiviral medication is appropriate for you.
Common prescription antivirals may include medications such as valacyclovir (Valtrex) or acyclovir (Zovirax). Your healthcare provider must determine the appropriate medication, dosage, when you should begin taking it and how long you should continue it.
Please follow your healthcare provider’s antiviral instructions exactly.
Do not self-prescribe, borrow medication from someone else or change the prescribed dosage or timing.
YOUR APPOINTMENT WILL BE RESCHEDULED IF:
You have a known history of cold sores and have not completed the required consultation with your healthcare provider or followed the preventative plan they prescribed.
I will also NOT perform Lip Blush if you have an active cold sore, tingling/burning that may indicate an outbreak is beginning, or a recently healing outbreak.
Please contact me BEFORE coming to your appointment if you notice any symptoms.
LIP FILLER & COSMETIC INJECTABLES
Please schedule lip filler at least 4 weeks BEFORE or 4 weeks AFTER your Lip Blush appointment.
Botox/Dysport and other cosmetic injectables around the treatment area should also be appropriately spaced from your appointment.
Allowing adequate time between treatments gives swelling and tissue changes time to fully settle before your lips are tattooed.
If you recently had lip filler or another injectable treatment and are unsure whether enough time has passed, please contact me before your appointment.
DENTAL WORK
If possible, avoid scheduling major dental work immediately before or after your Lip Blush appointment.
Dental procedures can involve significant stretching and manipulation of the lips and surrounding tissue. Certain dental procedures may also increase irritation or swelling around the mouth.
If you have dental surgery, extensive dental work or another oral procedure scheduled close to your appointment, please contact me beforehand.
BLOOD THINNERS & MEDICATIONS
If you currently take a prescription blood thinner, anticoagulant, antiplatelet medication or medically prescribed aspirin, you MUST consult with your prescribing physician or healthcare provider prior to your Lip Blush appointment.
Your prescribing healthcare provider must determine whether it is medically appropriate for you to discontinue or modify a medication.
Blood-thinning medications may increase bleeding and bruising during Lip Blush and may interfere with pigment implantation and your healed results.
Please notify me before your appointment if you take a prescription blood thinner.
If a supplement has been medically recommended, please consult your healthcare provider before discontinuing it.
ALCOHOL & CAFFEINE
Please avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before your appointment.
Please avoid caffeine on the day of your procedure, including coffee, energy drinks and highly caffeinated beverages, until after your appointment.
Excessive alcohol and certain medications can contribute to increased bleeding, while caffeine may make some clients feel more sensitive or jittery during the procedure.
SUN & TANNING
Please protect your lips from sunburn and significant UV exposure before your appointment.
I cannot perform Lip Blush on lips that are sunburned, peeling, cracked or irritated.
Sun exposure can also increase sensitivity, so keeping your lips healthy and protected before your appointment is extremely important.
DAY OF YOUR APPOINTMENT
Please:
Arrive with clean, healthy and well-hydrated lips
Eat a normal meal beforehand
Drink plenty of water
Avoid caffeine until after your appointment
Do not pick, peel or bite dry skin from your lips
Let me know about any medications or changes in your health that may affect your procedure
Your lips should be free from open wounds, sores, cracks, active cold sores or significant irritation.
I CANNOT TATTOO OVER COMPROMISED SKIN
Your Lip Blush appointment may need to be rescheduled if you have:
An active cold sore or fever blister
Tingling, burning or other signs that an HSV outbreak may be starting
Open cuts or abrasions
Severely cracked or bleeding lips
Significant peeling
Sunburn
Active infection
Rash or dermatitis around the mouth
Significant acne or inflammation directly within the treatment area
Unexplained lesions or significant irritation
Moles and other skin lesions will not be tattooed over and may need to be worked around.
If you are unsure about the condition of your lips, please contact me before your appointment rather than waiting until you arrive.
ONE LAST REMINDER
Your pre-care plays a major role in your healed Lip Blush results.
The goal is to have your lips arrive healthy, hydrated, intact and free from irritation. Proper preparation helps create the best possible canvas for even pigment implantation and a smooth healing process.
Please do not skip your pre-care — especially the cold-sore/HSV precautions if you have ever experienced an outbreak.
If you have questions about a medication, skincare ingredient, recent treatment or the condition of your lips, please reach out before making any changes or coming to your appointment.
-
YOUR AFTERCARE IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT
Proper aftercare is one of the most important factors in achieving beautiful, even and long-lasting Lip Blush results.
Your lips have just undergone a cosmetic tattoo procedure and need time to heal. How you care for them during the first 7–14 days can directly affect your healing, pigment retention and final healed color.
Your lips may initially appear swollen, brighter or darker than expected, and later the color may temporarily appear much lighter or even as though it has disappeared.
This is completely normal — trust the healing process!
Please follow these instructions carefully and allow your lips to fully heal before judging your final color.
AQUAPHOR IS YOUR BEST FRIEND!
This is one of the MOST IMPORTANT parts of your Lip Blush aftercare.
NEVER LET YOUR LIPS DRY OUT.
Keep your lips protected and moisturized with Aquaphor throughout the entire healing process.
Apply a clean layer as needed throughout the day and reapply anytime your lips feel like they need more moisture.
Your goal is to keep the lips consistently comfortable, protected and hydrated while the skin heals.
Always wash your hands before touching your lips or applying Aquaphor.
Keep your Aquaphor with you everywhere!
FIRST 7 DAYS — EVERYTHING YOU DRINK MUST BE THROUGH A STRAW
For the first 7 days, EVERYTHING YOU DRINK MUST BE THROUGH A STRAW.
This includes:
Water
Coffee
Tea
Soda
Juice
Any other beverages
When drinking, place the straw past your lips and into your mouth as much as comfortably possible.
The goal is to minimize liquids repeatedly touching your freshly tattooed lips while they are healing.
Keep straws with you everywhere for the first 7 days!
EATING
Be careful while eating during the first several days.
Take small bites and try to place food directly into your mouth rather than allowing food to rub across your lips.
Temporarily avoid foods that can irritate freshly tattooed lips, especially:
Very spicy foods
Very salty foods
Highly acidic foods
Citrus
Foods that require excessive stretching or large bites
After eating, gently blot your lips if necessary — never aggressively wipe or rub them.
Then reapply your Aquaphor.
PROTECT YOUR LIPS FROM WATER
For the first 7 days, avoid unnecessary water directly on your lips and do not soak them.
When showering, keep your face out of the direct stream of water.
Before showering, apply EXTRA Aquaphor.
This helps create a protective barrier over your lips.
Avoid allowing shampoo, conditioner, facial cleanser, body wash or other products to run over the tattooed area.
BRUSHING YOUR TEETH
You can continue brushing your teeth normally, but be very careful around your freshly tattooed lips.
Apply EXTRA Aquaphor BEFORE brushing your teeth.
This helps create a protective barrier.
Try to prevent toothpaste and mouthwash from sitting directly on the tattooed area.
Afterward, gently blot away any moisture if necessary and reapply your Aquaphor.
Never aggressively wipe or rub your lips.
NO KISSING FOR 7 DAYS
NO KISSING for 7 days following your Lip Blush procedure.
Your freshly tattooed lips need to remain as clean and protected as possible while the skin barrier heals.
DO NOT PICK, SCRATCH OR EXFOLIATE
As your lips heal, leave the skin completely alone.
DO NOT:
Pick
Scratch
Bite the skin
Pull at the skin
Use a washcloth
Use a lip scrub
Exfoliate
Use a toothbrush to exfoliate
Use cleansing brushes or exfoliating devices
Let your lips heal naturally and keep them protected with Aquaphor.
Picking or disturbing the healing skin can remove pigment and contribute to uneven healed results.
NO ICE OR COLD COMPRESSES
Please DO NOT apply ice or cold compresses directly to your freshly tattooed lips.
Some swelling immediately following Lip Blush is completely normal and should begin to settle as your lips heal.
NO MAKEUP ON YOUR LIPS
Do not apply lipstick, lip gloss, lip liner or any other cosmetic lip products for at least 10 days.
During the initial healing period:
AQUAPHOR IS YOUR LIP PRODUCT!
Avoid makeup directly around the lip border if there is a chance it could transfer onto the tattooed area.
NO SWIMMING, STEAM OR SAUNAS
For at least 10 days, avoid:
Swimming pools
Hot tubs
Saunas
Steam rooms
Excessive steam
Anything that repeatedly soaks your lips
Give the skin time to heal without prolonged exposure to moisture, heat or steam.
AVOID DIRECT SUN EXPOSURE
Avoid direct sun exposure during the initial healing period, especially during the first 1–2 weeks.
Once your lips are completely healed, I strongly recommend using a lip product with SPF whenever you’re exposed to the sun.
UV exposure can cause cosmetic tattoo pigment to fade prematurely, so long-term sun protection will help maintain your Lip Blush color.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING HEALING
Your Lip Blush color immediately after your appointment is NOT your final healed color.
Initially, your lips may appear:
Brighter • Darker • Warmer • More Intense • Swollen
THIS IS NORMAL.
As your lips heal, the color will begin to soften significantly.
At one point during the healing process, your Lip Blush may look extremely light or even as though the color has disappeared.
DON’T PANIC!
This does not necessarily mean you’ve lost your pigment.
The color continues to settle and develop as the skin heals. Over the following weeks, your Lip Blush will gradually settle into a softer, more natural healed shade.
Lip Blush may heal approximately 40–60% softer/lighter than the color you see immediately following your procedure.
Please do not judge your final color too soon.
Your lips need time to completely heal and allow the pigment to settle before your final results can be properly evaluated.

Beautiful healed Lip Blush is a team effort.
I will do everything I can during your appointment to give you beautiful results — following your aftercare instructions at home is your part in making sure we get there!
-
When you get home, you can remove the bandages.
· You will need to wash areolas before bed with lukewarm water and unscented soap or cleanser
· Apply the aftercare that is given to you by Sherry May Cosmetics in a thin layer after cleaning
· Make sure hands are clean before you touch your tattoos and before you wash them.
· Repeat in the morning.
· You will continue this for 5 days minimum.
· Please remember this is a new tattoo and should be cared for like an open wound.
· Do not over saturate with aftercare balm and lotions. You don’t want to let the area get too dried out either.
· You will switch to unscented lotion for 2 weeks, such as Lubriderm or Cetaphil, after your 5 days of aftercare balm.
· Limit the wear of a tight bra for the first 48 hours, you will need to let the area breathe as much as possible during the healing process.

· No massages
-
-DO NOT consume alcohol, or caffeine 16 hours before appointment
· Do NOT take any blood thinners (aspirin, ibuprofen, Niacin 48 hours before your procedure, this will cause excess bleeding and may affect your healed results).
